“i refuse to hand you a world that i am not proud of” i am on my morning commute on the metro listening to this line and i literally just had to stop in my tracks. also, hearing and seeing your (ismatu’s) updates at the end and seeing so much joy and excitement within it made me joyful! which, relatedly, affirmed/made more real this thought i’ve had in my head that has been the butt of the joke for me with my friends which that my ultimate dream is to be a farmer. and not the mass agricultural kind either (there’s a backstory to this but i am just one small commenter here). thank you, as always!

Your honesty never fails to restore my hope for humanity.

I help care for a small piece of land along the U.S.- México border (U.S. side). Becoming a farmer, especially in such a precarious place full of contradictions, has had an indescribable impact on my world view and way of being. There’s nothing like forming a deep relationship with land to make you realize how much has been robbed from us by colonization and capitalism (I.e. our ability to belong, find purpose, health and safety in relationship with both humans and non humans). I can’t wait to hear about your learnings from this new stage in your life, if you choose to share them. I can imagine your reflections on building food sovereignty, buying tractors, unsexy princess shit and whatever else this stage in your life brings you will be profound and insightful as all your reflections are.
