Ooh its been a long time since I’ve had to pause to look up words while reading! 14 so far! I feel sad when I remember that as a kid/teenager I would resist doing it and just read on with what I figured it might mean, because not knowing made me feel bad, or like I was not capable of reading at that level… also, how much context / meaning / intention was missing from all that I understood everytime I chose not to look a word up? Today, it felt like a gift to stretch my mind and weave into it more threads of knowledge and meaning. I’m really feeling and repeating to myself your words from your earlier essay on the importance of Reading, especially of it being meant to be a challenge, and of it being worthy of the time it takes. You are really helping me to restore a beloved part of myself to myself Ismatu! Thank you! And thank you for the push not to procrastinate! I would regret not having read what I’ve so far read bitterly!
