Excited for your renewed perception of Substack and Patreon! And of course, i love that you’re comfortable enough to have a less formal space here for “first drafts” / book club-esque setting. Here’s to professor Ismatu’s office hours🥳

It is nice to just exist and breathe in spaces that are not too small and not too big. Thank you for providing that within this Substack space. Thank you for your art and time.

that email was exactly right, because you’ve already created spaces, written words, etc, which are and will keep being irreplaceable and incredibly valuable. learning alongside you, reading and existing and being able to think in ways that don’t demand productivity or immediate fulfilment is really what it is to be human, with a little ‘h’. thank you for what you do, truly-- i hope this work and these spaces will always be to you what they are to so many of us.

As long as people continue to have the option to pay you more to receive the exact content you are also giving out for free (because you are precious, and you must be many steps away from dying of preventable disease)

Ismatu, I will say this clearly:

I am one who pays for your Patreon. I find these thoughts immeasurably valuable to long-term work for me and my abolitionist comrades. I'm a quiet student who reads your essays late into the night and sends them (like threads) spreading into the world. I look forward to continuing observing your evolution and marking my progress against yours. I will be purchasing your public work when released. I consider it mutual aid, to trade $3 for each essay.

i admire your commitment to distributing resources and value free of charge. However, i hear you entrenching yourself in noble poverty. On an honor system, you will be supported by those with similar view points to mine. It is ok; you can ask for more, and it will be given by those who follow your leadership.

I also recently lost my political mentor, and one of my closest friends. The hardest part is that we already walk the path laid for us by our leaders. We already know what we're going to do, because those with loving guidance took us by hand and made it so.

I respect you greatly. My name is Mik Bishop on Patreon if you'd like to enter into dialogue with me.

Hello,

I don't really know how this all works, but I wanted to say thank you. I wanted to say that I hope you have time and space to grieve. To have loved someone so much to grieve them is beautiful, and I hope you can rest with it all.

I also wanted to say thank you, because you made me think. I didn't know you could exist in this world like you exist.

So thank you, and please, rest well.

Is it possible to still contribute money monthly to this account or do we need another format to slide monthly dollars that’s not stubstack/patreon?
