"I did I not realize how much hope I can sow. I am on my hands and knees, planting the world I wish to see. Sailing towards the horizon. A new world is coming like the dawn."
“I am searching for a world where hope does not grow stubbornly up through cracks in the asphalt, but it blooms unmitigated, everywhere, dropping fruit on our heads, easily ripe. Sweet like the breeze.”
Thank you for this essay! Your hope is making mine burn a little brighter.
I’m so happy for you ismatu. I’m so happy you’ve realized how much we believe in you. Please talk more (here or on TikTok) about how you’re able to trust God given everything that has been done in his name and everything that isn’t working. I’d really like to know because I’m trying to figure it out also but you give me hope. Thank you
"I just didn’t know that anger and hope bloom in me the same way. I am angry and I am hopeful and in this world, they cannot exist without one another. " Whew, a revelation.
Although, I'm subscribed to this publication, I usually listen on the podcast app. It was so refreshing to read along with you this go round. Congratulations on your degree, the tractor, and giving yourself time to rest. Thank you so much for sharing you work, academic and radical.
(Sidenote: I didn't know you included the jazz of each episode either, ugh, I love that lol)
Ismatu, this essay made me cry. I am still trying to learn how to not die and my endurance is mostly propelled from anger and grief. You give me hope for a new kind of hope.
