Beauty is Bad Bookclub is returning Oct. 30th!
Dates and times on Malcolm X, Beyoncé and Bookclub content <3
I love you all thank you for your patience!
Hellooooooo, Internet Friends!
I am so grateful to you all for this space. I love creating things for you. I am so happy you all like to be internet friends with me. For those wondering, I am to my final destination of Phoenix, Arizona safe and sound! What a long month of driving and sleeping on my friend’s couches. I felt like a tumbleweed. I still do. Here are some updates with the projects I currently have going on.
The Garden Space stays the course.
Here, we will continue to explore the planting and blooming of human connection. The first unit is all about the exploration of my internal landscape, and the relationship(s) I hold with my own self. I have the rest of the season mapped out, so look for a forthcoming itinerary. Always tryna keep y’all in the loop.
Also, this podcast is already on the charts across the world— especially in Finland? I did not know Finnish people fuck with me like that! Come on, Finland!! Love y’all!!
Black Radical Bookclub is becoming Third University.
The full text of A Third University Is Possible is available online, for free, right here. My lovely sister Lydia recommended it to me and it changed my whole damn life. I was waffling with the naming of the bookclub “Black Radical Bookclub” because it (1) is already taken on instagram by someone doing the damn thing and (2) I think created more exclusion than I wanted. Not that centering Black radicalism is inherently exclusionary but… no, that really is not the best space for white readers.
I want to shift to providing a space where we can give long-term thought to important ideas. After the Beauty series is done, I’m shifting all my political educational content to Third University, on Substack, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube (once I get the funds). The goal is to carve out space where we can learn about the things I wish I had more time to focus on in university. The first four units are as follows:
Revolutionary Education: Friere, Third Spaces, and Science Fiction
UNION STRONG: A History of Labor Rights in the United States
Climate Change Movements and Indigenous Sovereignty
Wealth Determines Health: The Social Spread of Disease
I want to spend as much time as I possibly can creating art and revolutionary educational materials for the internet. Your dollars make sure I can do that and buy groceries at the same time. Thank you for your dollars!! $5/month is world changing for me!!
I see that some of you already subscribed to the Third University substack and I love that for me. and you! lol. See you all there soon <3
Beyoncé musings are coming out in the beginning of November.
My beautiful lovely amazing sexy big brain energy sister Lydia and I will be together LIVE on October 22nd for a family affair. We will be recording the Beyoncé episode then!! So then, after that, it’s just edits and uploads. So happy you all are so kind to me in the waiting process. I appreciate it.
Malcolm X and his (alleged) queer sex work is a whole can of worms.
I am going to make the podcast. And the TikTok series. Those are final projects I want to see out around mid-November. But no matter how much care and nuance I attempt, this content is going to be inflammatory. I debate about putting it on YouTube for two reasons:
(1) I simply do not have technology that can handle long-form video editing. I’ve almost killed my laptop twice now and had to factory reset my phone. Funds are a huge barrier in me creating long form video content like I want to.
(2) YouTube is awful. That platform specifically is where all the hoteps that drink misogyny for breakfast live. I have such a strong distaste for ill-researched, weaponized opinions— especially from men. The last time I worked to make these videos… 2,000 people watched them. That sucks. That’s not worth the work or the abuse. I’m willing to be told I am wrong on this but let me know your thoughts.
…should I just release a video on Substack exclusively? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
I would love love love to do more video essays, but I need a laptop. I am a graduate student which means I am all debt and no money. Until I can get those funds together, I don’t have the manpower for YouTube.
I think that’s all! Also, I just found a whole heck ton of emails from you all filtered away in my promotions tab! I’m so sorry!! Gmail is such a snake for that. Expect responses from me soon if you haven’t got one. Much love.
