Maybe you're just a more effective lightning rod for inspiring people to donate - more so than the name of some UBI program in a country most people know nothing about. I agree that's fucked and people should act right without that added layer of personalization but alas - here we are.
I also think we are similar to cats in that we have to have a string dangled in front of our eyes in order to have the option of choice put directly in front of us. Then a higher percentage of people will have the option or urge to act. It's energy intensive work make no mistake. It's hard work that will exhaust you but it's more effective than just leaving it solely up to chance.
